In Her Shoes

Our first event aimed to bring us together with a common interest – Shoes!

We were delighted to have Julieanne McMullan to speak on the theme ‘In Her Shoes’. Here is a wee reminder of what she spoke to us about!

In Her Shoes

Theme of Journey & Friendship

How do we walk through life?

Often God calls us to love others more than ourselves, often he calls us to influence, to care. To walk in someone elses shoes, to put yourself in their position, to try to think like them try to understand their situation before judging or in order to lend help and support.

On the flip side “her shoes’ could be our own shoes and like children, we need to grow into our final size. Be open to new experiences, discipline & growth.

Colossians 3 “12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.  15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

These verses tell us to CLOTHE ourselves with these qualities, in this case put on the shoes of these things. They should be what people see when they look at our lives.

Compassion    Kindness Humility   Patience  Gentleness

Next part of verse says to BEAR with each other, clearly highlighting that there will be times in friendships, in church relationships that it won’t be easy.

“and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another”

As females we are sometimes good at justifying our grievances, usually to each other. But here we are being told to forgive as Jesus did us. This is probably one of the hardest things but it’s so true that we can’t really move forward on the journey God has put us on, we can’t fulfil His glory if we holding a grudge or grievance.

I heard a wee saying one time that the happiness of your life depends upon the character of your thoughts.

Romans 12 v 1 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds

We all have patterns of thinking- sometimes we need to break the pattern.

Proverbs 27 v 17 talks about iron sharpening iron, so a man can sharpen the countenance of his friends- what a lovely thought!

In the Bible Ruth carried Gods fragrance with her and had good reputation. She brought out the best in others and herself.

We need to be heaven sent people & connect with others- easy or hard.

We need to step into the shoes of others and say I’ll try these- showing God’s compassion & relevance. This will impact them but also deepen our empathy, stretch our hearts and enlarge our worlds.

Open up new areas in our lives-  We need to be a sermon in shoes!

Keep walking the path God put YOU on, it’s YOUR path, they are YOUR shoes.

Be connected, to each other and most importantly be connected to God!
