As much as I feel a bit like Carrie Bradshaw, as I sit and type my blog, I can assure you that I am no style icon! A web cam and numerous photos would prove that! However, I can’t help but be a bit intrigued by the whole world of fashion. This curiosity has lead to me becoming an avid follower of America’s Next Top Model! Please don’t judge me! The weird and wonderful world of fashion is one I can’t fathom. It is so fickle! One minute you are the next big thing then blink and you become ‘so last year’! It constantly strives to come up with something new and innovative – pretty exhausting and expensive if you try to keep up.
It is easy to get caught up in it all and as a Christian you are always reminded that ‘Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart’. Isn’t it great to know that in the midst of all the constant change one thing remains. God cares about you, not the latest fashion or fad, just plain old you! I love the verse that says ‘ We are fearfully and wonderfully made’. Most mornings I’m leaning more towards fearful than wonderful, but how comforting to know that on those very bad hair days all God is concerned about is what’s going on inside. As part of His Creation, He loves us unconditionally and reaches out to us despite our flaws.
Some of us may never be cut out for the catwalk or the pages of Vogue but we can have an inner beauty that affects those around us. A caring heart that sends a text when you are feeling low, a hug when you’ve had the worst day or a word of encouragement – there is real beauty in that!
So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.
Colossians 3 v 12-14 (The Message)
So my fashion trend to embrace this season is love, designed by Our Amazing Creator and I know this will never go out of fashion!
